Date: December 16, 2012
Times: 7 a.m. – 3 p.m.
On this special Men’s Day we’ll be exercising the Bodhisattva spirit and gathering together for some holiday outreach, lending our help and donations to the Cornucopia Food Pantry in Durham, NH. As our friend Jumbo likes to call it, the day will be an “action item of Dharma practice.”
We’ll begin with an early sit together at 7:00 a.m. at Akashaloka, a short breakfast at 8:15, and then before 9:00 we’ll carpool and head over to the Waysmeet Center in Durham, where the food pantry is located. While there we’ll be doing a variety of tasks to help out and get them prepared for their winter food drive – mostly help around the building doing some light yard work, organizing of the pantry, and we may be doing some work preparing food baskets.
Please bring warm clothing and work gloves in case we spend some time outside. At some point during the day, we’ll break for a lunch together in downtown Durham, and the end of the day will either be when there’s no more work to be done or at 3:00 p.m.
The fee for the day, if you would like to give something to Aryaloka, is by donation, but please be sure to bring a donation for the food pantry – a food basket, check, or other needed items. For more information on what you can donate, please visit the Cornucopia website. Especially this year, when many folks have been hit very hard by the economy, every bit counts.
For those who won’t be making breakfast at Akashaloka and carpooling, and who would like to meet us at the Waysmeet Center, you can find directions here.
This should be a great day, and we hope to do more outreach on Men’s Days through 2013, so please join the rest of the guys in compassionate action, and show your support! See you soon!
