Sangha Retreat

October 20 @ 7:00 pm - October 22 @ 2:00 pm

SANGHA RETREAT: SPIRAL and MANDALA ~ Charting the Inner Way

A sangha retreat, for friends, mitras and Order members across the region; this retreat will be suitable for people just getting their feet on a path and for people who’ve been walking for ages. The retreat aims to ‘inspire and guide’ through collective practice as a sangha.

Prior experience with meditation will be very helpful, though some of the meditations will be guided. The retreat will include five intensive meditation sessions and three ‘mapping’ sessions.

There are many helpful ‘maps’ or guides to spiritual life – the many familiar lists in Buddhism (such as the Noble Eightfold Path or Six Perfections) help us aim in the right direction. On this retreat we will use as our guide the ‘System of Practice’ that has five aspects: integration; positive emotion and skillful action; receptivity; wisdom or spiritual death; and freedom or spiritual rebirth. We’ll meditate according to each aspect and we’ll look at our experience and where we are going in two ways: in terms of a path that spirals and in terms of entering a mandala, or a palace, of increasing awareness, contentment, energy, wisdom and compassion.

Come be part of the expedition. We’ll help each other chart the inner way.

Led by Amala, longtime practitioner and meditation and Dharma teacher at Aryaloka. Amala is fond of maps in all forms but when out on her own, she invariably finds herself bushwhacking off the trail at some point. A few scratches and twigs caught in her hair along the way mean it was a good journey.

* At Aryaloka, we strive to make our programs available to everyone regardless of their financial circumstances. Our fee structure allows you to pay according to your means. The Sustaining price is for people comfortably paying their rent or mortgage, and who can afford the occasional meal out and movie. The Sustaining price level also helps Aryaloka offer lower prices to those who could otherwise not afford to attend. Any payment above this price is a tax-deductible donation. Mid-Level prices are for those who have a regular income and are paying their mortgage or rent. Prices at this level contribute to the range of Aryaloka’s operating costs. The Base-Level price is for those without an income or with an income low enough that making ends meet is a challenge. Those whose circumstances are not included above can call the office to arrange alternate pricing.

* Retreat participants are asked to work together to prepare and clean up after meals and to help with general cleanup at the end of the retreat.
