Mandala Evening: Using the Dharma to Understand – and Overcome – Racial Bias in Ourselves and Our Communities

December 19; 6:45 – 9:15 pm

Join us for an exploration and discussion about racial bias and Dharma. We’ll investigate what implicit racial bias is, how its development can be understood through the Buddha’s teaching of conditionality, and how the practice of mindfulness can help disrupt the mechanisms that maintain bias.

The evening will feature a talk by Viveka, Mindfulness and the Creative Disruption of Bias. A member of the Triratna Buddhist Order, meditation teacher, and social justice advocate, Viveka is the Emeritus Chairwoman of the San Francisco Buddhist Center and a core coach at Coaching for Justice in Oakland, CA.

After Viveka’s talk, a conversation cafe will give us opportunity to further explore the issues of racial biases and how to use the Dharma to free ourselves of them.
