Sangha Nights at Aryaloka are when we gather to meditate and explore aspects of Buddhism through workshops, talks, study, ritual, or discussion. The emphasis is on practical application of Buddhist principles in our own lives. These events are great for anyone who is new to the Aryaloka sangha.

Time: 5:30 pm

DROP-IN YOGA CLASSES - Ongoing drop-in yoga, all levels: Wednesdays at Aryaloka (click on this box to see times). This class uses simple vinyasa-style sequences, ujjayi breathing, and drishtis (gaze points) to deepen focus and concentration. Emphasis is placed on safe alignment and modifications will be offered for different levels of experience. Classes start on April 4. No preregistration is required. The cost for each class is $10/8/6.

* Intermediate Meditation CourseIntermediate Meditation Course

Time: 7:00 pm

Learn to change your mind! There’s a lot more to meditation than just the bare techniques of the mindfulness of breathing and loving-kindness practices. On this eight-week course, Bodhipaksa will introduce specific ways of dealing with negative emotions such as ill will, anxiety, and self-doubt, and will teach techniques for cultivating positive states of calm, joy, and concentration.

* Gentle/Restorative Yoga Gentle/Restorative Yoga

Time: 4:00 pm

GENTLE/RESTORATIVE YOGA - DROP-IN CLASSES. This class is ideal for people wanting a gentler approach or slower introduction to yoga. Gentle toning, stretching, and balancing poses will be taught, with emphasis placed on relaxation and the use of restorative poses to deepen the relaxation response. The first of an ongoing series of classes begins May 4 from 4 to 5 p.m.

* Full-Moon Puja & MeditationFull-Moon Puja & Meditation

Time: 7:00 pm

Once a month on the nearest Friday to the Full Moon, Aryaloka is open for an evening of practice, which includes meditation, Dharma readings, followed by a Seven-fold Puja (text available for download here). The evenings are led, but there is no instruction or guidance per se. If you know how to meditate and feel comfortable with Buddhist practice, please come join fellow practitioners and enjoy the collective benefits. Contributions toward heat and electricity will be appreciated!

* Series 2 - Death and DyingSeries 2 - Death and Dying

Time: 9:00 am

HOW TO BENEFIT THOSE WHO ARE DYING AND THOSE WHO HAVE DIED - Death can be so hidden in our culture that we have few models for supporting someone in the dying process and for processing our own grief. This workshop will help participants learn how to support someone facing a life threatening or terminal illness, and how to help ourselves when we are grieving. (This class is a repeat of the Mar. 17 workshop.)

* Buddha Day CelebrationBuddha Day Celebration

Time: 10:00 am

Come celebrate with us the historical and spiritually magnificent day of the Buddha’s Enlightenment. Together we will create ~ through shared readings, short talks, silent reflections, and written experiential exercise ~ a very intimate experience of the Buddha. We will more than celebrate the Buddha, but actually move forward into a deeper understanding and relationship with him and the vibrant experience of his Enlightenment.

Meditations taught will include the Mindfulness of Breathing, development of loving-kindness (Metta Bhavana) and walking meditation. These forms have been found to be supportive and helpful to most everyone by helping us to focus, to become more at ease, to know our own minds more fully. Buddhist teachings shared will include the five ethical precepts, the principle of conditionality or interconnectedness, and the Four Noble Truths. The course emphasizes how the Buddhist tradition applies to our lives and the world as we know it now.

* Memorial Day Weekend HikeMemorial Day Weekend Hike

Time: 11:00 am

(CLICK FOR MORE INFORMATION) - Join us for a hike around Tower Hill Pond in Candia on Memorial Day weekend. This is a relatively easy hike, with gravel paths and mostly flat terrain around the pond's edge. The entire hike is about 3 - 3.5 miles and estimated to be 1 1/2 to 2 hours long. We'll adjust our pacing to suit the group, and stop for lunch wherever the view is best. Friends, family, and dogs are especially welcome to join us! Bring lunch, snacks, water, insect repellant and sunscreen.

COUNCIL CAFE WITH COFFEE, CAKE, AND CHOCOLATE - A special invitation! Please join Aryaloka’s Council at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 31 for an informative and lively discussion about our beloved center. This is your chance to learn about the state of our center and sangha, ask questions of our Council members, hear about current programs, and envision what Aryaloka will become! We’ll begin with informal presentations, have a break for delicious refreshments, and then have a lively discussion. It promises to be a fun, interesting and community-building event. Please plan to attend – this event is open to the whole sangha and we hope each and every Order member, mitra and sangha member will come!
