Ann Dennehy, a mitra from San Francisco as well as an English teacher and lecturer, has recently returned from a retreat organized by the National Network of Buddhist Youth in Bor Dharan, India. She will discuss this retreat and how Buddhism has been growing in the Dalit community for the last 50 years. In the Indian caste system, a Dalit, is sometimes called an "Untouchable", or an outcast, according to an ancient traditional Hindu belief.

Buddhists in IndiaMs. Dennehy will also talk about the life and legacy of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar (1891-1956), who was the most famous Dalit convert to Buddhism in India. He helped spark a Buddhist revival in India, with many different castes and communities showing interest in Buddhism as a means of transforming society.

The talk will include discussions about students in India today who are spreading Buddhism among a new generation. Related information is available at http://taraindigo.googlepages.com/jaibhim
