Kulas at Aryaloka
What's a kula?
Our beautiful Aryaloka exists through the volunteer efforts of many members, both new and long term, working in various interest groups called "kulas." Joining a kula is a wonderful way to make the transition from attending Tuesday night meditation and study, to finding real friendships and making Aryaloka truly your spiritual home.
By working as little as one or two hours of your choice a month, on tasks of your choice, you can get to know people in a way not possible just on Tuesday nights. You will create friendships, laugh, contribute to the greater good, gain a wonderful sense of satisfaction, laugh some more, and feel the joy of Aryaloka becoming your spiritual home. There's a lot of laughter and joy here at Aryaloka.
How do I help?
There are about a dozen kulas currently helping at Aryaloka. (The number fluctuates given the nature of impermanence and seasonal enthusiasm!) Read through the list below and see if you can find your own door to friendship, spiritual growth and fun. We welcome you with joy and gratitude.
Curious? For further info, please contact sgroonell@comcast.net or info@aryaloka.org. Zero Pressure Guaranteed.
Our current kulas include:
- Buddhaworks: This kula stocks and runs our own cheery bookstore and gift shop
- Buildings: If you can pound a nail, you can help us maintain and enhance our buildings!
- Children's Programming: plans and carries out programs and activities for children and families. If you have children or are a kid at heart, look no further.
- Cleaning: Many hands would make light work here! If you can operate a broom, run a dust cloth or know what a washing machine does, have we got a fun crew for you to join!
- Grounds: Are you the outdoors type? Like to dig in the dirt? Plant flowers? Mow the grass? Shovel the walks of snow? Sign up here.
- Fundraising: No telephone solicitation or door to door fundraising here! Just meeting with imaginative folks to think up and implement cheery fundraising events like concerts, movie nights, auctions and chocolate parties.
- Library: Aryaloka has an extensive and popular library. We could really use restacking help with returned books. Easy training provided.
- Shrine: Do you enjoy beauty and devotion, flowers and light? This kula beautifies and maintains our shrine weekly and for special occasions.
- Tech Support: Know your way around a computer? You could help us run our website, plan for our long term tech needs, or just make yourself available for troubleshooting when our office staff runs up against a computer glitch.
- Vajra Bell: Creates and distributes our quarterly newsletter. If you can write, organize materials, or use a computer, this one is for you.
- Recycling: Concerned about the environment? Join our recycling kula to move our paper, compost, metals and plastics containers to outside the building for weekly pickup.
We look forward to meeting you, sharing activities, and becoming friends.
