Milarepa, the Enlightened Yogi | a retreat for Triratna Order Members

April 17, 2020 @ 7:00 pm - April 23, 2020 @ 2:00 pm

Event Dates: April 17, 7pm to April 23, 2pm

The focus of this meditation retreat will be on the extraordinary way of life of Milarepa. Milarepa’s clarity of vision has been a primary inspiration for Kamalashila. He’ll draw on his own experience of living in simplicity as a hermit and practising aspects of Milarepa’s approach.

We will form a community, focused on practice, supporting one another. With study and discussion for the first few days, and then a period of silent practice. Who knows what will come up? According to Milarepa, if it has reference points, it is not the view; if there’s dullness and agitation, it’s not meditation. If there’s adopting and rejecting, it is not (right) conduct; if there are concepts, it is not yoga. If there is dawning and waning, it is not wisdom. If there is birth and death, it’s not Buddhahood. Some of this could be very relevant!

We will be spending a period each day going through The Hundred Thousand Songs of Milarepa (the new translation by Christopher Stagg) and some time meditating based on what arises from the text.

If you’d prefer not to book through Eventbrite, please email info@aryaloka.org or call 603-659-5456.

* At Aryaloka, we strive to make our programs available to everyone regardless of their financial circumstances. Our fee structure allows you to pay according to your means. The Sustaining price is for people comfortably paying their rent or mortgage, and who can afford the occasional meal out and movie. The Sustaining price level also helps Aryaloka offer lower prices to those who could otherwise not afford to attend. Any payment above this price is a tax-deductible donation. Mid-Level prices are for those who have a regular income and are paying their mortgage or rent. Prices at this level contribute to the range of Aryaloka’s operating costs. The Base-Level price is for those without an income or with an income low enough that making ends meet is a challenge. Those whose circumstances are not included above can call the office to arrange alternate pricing.

* Retreat participants are asked to work together to prepare and clean up after meals and to help with general cleanup at the end of the retreat.
