Unearthing the Buddha, Men’s Dharma Weekend

June 21 @ 7:00 pm - June 23 @ 7:00 pm

Event Dates: June 21, 2019 – June 23, 2019

What Keeps us in the Dark?

One of the great metaphors of spiritual practice is the image of illumination: of moving out of the constricting darkness of ignorance to the infinite light of wisdom. This retreat will explore that metaphor through rich discussion and meditation practice, as well as meaningful ritual. The weekend will be built around the myth of emergence with rituals to support the theme and engage the imagination. Participants will live as a community, creating a space of liberative practice.

The ritual space that we’ll be creating will form a mandala around a project that has been waiting to happen. Some of you know that there have been several large stone Buddhas hidden away in the barn for several years. On this retreat, we will be ritually installing some or all of them at several sites on the property. Participants can assist in this process in a variety of ways, and will not be expected to engage in heavy labor! So don’t hesitate if you don’t feel physically up to it, as there will be many ways to participate. This is not a working weekend: It is a weekend of friendship, myth and ritual that will have a lasting effect on the terrain at Aryaloka, and the internal wilderness of us all.

Happily, this weekend takes place over the Summer Solstice and we will enjoy the longest day of the year together!

* At Aryaloka, we strive to make our programs available to everyone regardless of their financial circumstances. Our fee structure allows you to pay according to your means. The Sustaining price is for people comfortably paying their rent or mortgage, and who can afford the occasional meal out and movie. The Sustaining price level also helps Aryaloka offer lower prices to those who could otherwise not afford to attend. Any payment above this price is a tax-deductible donation. Mid-Level prices are for those who have a regular income and are paying their mortgage or rent. Prices at this level contribute to the range of Aryaloka’s operating costs. The Base-Level price is for those without an income or with an income low enough that making ends meet is a challenge. Those whose circumstances are not included above can call the office to arrange alternate pricing.

* Retreat participants are asked to work together to prepare and clean up after meals and to help with general cleanup at the end of the retreat.
