Event Dates: Saturday, April 28, 2018

We will explore the music, the genesis and the ‘spiritual philosophy’ of one of the great masterworks of all ages, one that transcends boundaries of time, culture, and class. What makes “the Ninth” (as it’s popularly known) such an enduring and alluring work? Why is it seen as a milestone of creation? Why is it this work that was performed to celebrate the Berlin Wall coming down in 1989? What, exactly, did Beethoven transcend? And how – really, how? – did the great composer manage to rise above his own complete deafness to give us this gift?

Through discussion, ‘deep listening’, meditation and reflection we will develop intimacy with this profound and important – and supremely joyful and uplifting – symphony. And, through this intimacy, we will be opened up to the possibility of our own transcendence…

Participants are eligible for $10 tickets for any of 3 live performances of the Ninth Symphony, with Sravaniya conducting the New Hampshire Philharmonic Orchestra and Chorus, and soloists. (Those 18 and younger get in for free!)
